First design show that we attended was on Tuesday at the Decorex tent show in Syon, west of London. The inspiration for this show was it was in a huge tent, that was an atelier for over 400 artists. Booths were adorned so distinctively you hardly knew you were in a tent.
I want to share a couple of my favorite finds.
This exquisite chandelier had the electrical wires entwined with the metal to make a rope effect and the lights were housed in the metal tassels. What a clever design, perfect for a coastal home.
The next over the top chandelier was the “He loves me, he loves me not”. A bouquet of lighted flowers. This would be a conversation piece over any dining table or foyer.
This was just a couple of my thousands of finds at the London Design Festival. Please keep following me for more updates. #dhlondon #designhound #design #logos @thegrapevinehome.
The Grapevine Home closed the doors on its gift shop in December 2015. I owned the gift shop for 20 years, and loved the people and making their gifts beautiful for them to give to loved ones. But after that many years of juggling both gifts and interior designs, I decided to follow my design dream of making my region of the world more beautiful through interior design.
After I closed the gift side of my business, it was evident that I still need a building to work out of to meet with my clients to pour over fabrics, rugs or anything pertaining to the design of their homes and/or office. However, I really didn’t need all the space that came along with my current building anymore. Then, an ‘AHA!’ moment…I decided to host designer events in my little shop.
The first event was a baby show for my hair stylist…you know you have to keep her happy! Or you’ll have Mamie Eisnhower hair! 😳 So I enlisted help from my design friend I’ve nicknamed Hopsing to help…as you know Hopsing can do anything (via Bonanza).
We ordered in round tables, rented table clothes, chair covers black and white striped chair ties to sit throughout the building. I simply love fresh flowers, therefore we made fresh center pieces of lilies, roses, peonies and gerberas daisies, along with greenery from our front yard for each table.
Custom handmade paper flowers were placed on a recycled palette made into a wall hanging, a recycled frame painted gold around baby’s first initial ‘B,’ and an iron embellishment to crown the top was the back drop for the food table which was an old farm table that was covered with pale pink taffeta and a black tulle skirt ewn to it. And ta da!
Future mother to be, Coco and GrandSue wore ribbons declaring their desired names for little Miss Brooks to call them, while big sister-to-be Hadlynn wore a beautiful ‘Big Sister’ sash. It was a grand designer event with food, fun and lots of baby gifts.
Up next?
An Hawaiian themed wedding reception! Stay tuned for a recap!

After Christmas and all the beautiful decorations that made you happy have been taken down. Doesn’t your house feel blah and unappealing.
There a 5 things you can do to add interest.
1. Move your furniture around, look at new angles for your furniture. You many even need to move the rug, or better yet add a new rug. Color is key color always adds flair.
2. Add color with pillows. I love to add seasonal pillows to a room it can change the room.
3. Add a few spring accessories, like greenery on side tables. I like greenery this time to year to reflect spring emerging, budding type branches and flowers. I will only use realistic greenery, no fake colors that are not in nature.
4. With warmer weather approaching….NOW is the time to look at those window treatments. Nice draperies can totally make a cold boring room look warm and cozy. And cool and inviting in the hot summer months.
5. Art! This is a fantastic way to change your room. New art. Add color or go with tone on tone. Monochromic! . Choose art that speaks to you and not that it matches your sofa or rug.
How ever and what ever makes you feel happy about your house just maybe a few changes.
Until next time…remember you heard it through The Grapevine Home.
